The third conference in the Northeast region was the Keystone conference. This conference had 6 teams. Based on the numbers of their social media pages, these teams have a lot of work to do in terms of getting more fans! But I continued looking into their pages and compiling the information.

Continuing with social media work on a professional level today, I was not surprised to see the popularity of these teams on social media. Partly because of the fact that soccer is a growing sport in this country and also the presence of prominent players. The National Premier Soccer League is a well know, established league run by some of the most accomplished professional in different fields. Cindy Spera, who I had the privileged to interact to get some work done, has had an illustrious career in the field of finance. So, it was motivating to learn that I was getting to network through this mentorship opportunity. The teams in the North Atlantic conference were all well present on all social media. New York Cosmos B was the most popular with over a hundred thousand likes on Facebook. This reflects the club’s standing and fan appreciation and following.
For the North east region, there were 6 teams listed. The North East region had several conferences. The first one was the Mid Atlantic conference in which there were 6 teams. All of them were fairly established on the social media platforms- Facebook and Twitter. Just 2 out of the 6 were present on Instagram. My task was to create a spreadsheet with various heads such as followers, likes and shares on all the social media platforms and also provide the link to these webpages. I finished with the Mid Atlantic conference and went forward with another conference in the region – the North Atlantic conference which had 7 teams. From my research, this was perhaps the most competitive conference in terms of players, club affiliation and performance. These teams mainly belonged to the New York region which attracted many talented players.
It was refreshing to learn and relate my experience and the tasks that I completed to theories and articles in this subject. This definitely reassured me that I was on the right track. Following up on this, my next assignment was to create a spreadsheet for each team on the social media handless. The process is pretty much simple but understanding the role of it was vital. Since National Premier Soccer League is a national league recognizing teams from all over the country, from a business perspective, it was important to monitor the health of the teams on social media platforms using various indicators such as likes, shares, follower etc. So, the first step was to pull out the complete list of teams in the National Premier Soccer League and form a division based on their region. It had four distinct regions – Northeast, South, Midwest and West. Under these regions, there were several teams competing.
My practical work has been going great. The weekly assignments that I completed, all gave me a sense of what was required and done in the field of communication and media handles. Today I decided to go a little theoretical by spending time researching articles, journals or any form of texts that related to my line of work. Using my past work and the nature of my position as an intern, I was able to come up with some interesting things that I could relate. An important concept that I was able to grasp was using social media to expand fan interactions and other communications as a startup tool. This was especially relevant for the smaller teams in the league or the state. I could totally relate to this because as I had mentioned earlier about the teams with no source or website, these teams had their presence on social media – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I formed an opinion about this occurrence and realized that it is one of the strategies to reach out to people and potential fans and also an effective way, from what I saw and read about its implications.
I worked on the remaining games in the NPSL file in the Dropbox. There were 2 games left that I had to update and create a spreadsheet. It was the same procedure and I had found a smooth flow to get the job done even though it was time consuming.
I was getting the hang of how the National Premier League operated in terms of communications and the media handles and I was happy to see my progress fit well within the framework of the goals. So, the remaining games had to be looked into. This process I would say was very time consuming solely of the fact that all game reports were handwritten and I had a difficult time reading and understanding the figures and names of the players. So I had to continuously juggle between the report and the team roster for each game to ensure that the information was correctly entered.
It was going all fine with the way my mentorship was going. Today, It was that time again to update the game statistics for the National Premier Soccer League. My Dropbox was continuously updated with any new information and files that were posted in the shared files of the game reports. There was not many games posted of which I had to create the statistic. However, I went ahead with the updated files and created a separate spreadsheet for each games along with their figures and post-game records for each game. This was also an essential function of International Soccer Network because we were directly involved with the NPSL in their communication efforts and media handles.
I communicated my work with Gary and explained him the barriers that I faced. This was a critical point of concern because it wasn’t allowing me to fully create an effective set of information due to the lack of maintenance of website by these clubs. At the same time, I couldn’t underestimate the importance and relevance of this data to International Soccer Network LLC because we need to have the information ready for clients looking to expand their business and engagements in new areas. I had some time to look over some of the spreadsheets and locate what was lacking so that I know whom to follow up and gather the missing information
Oregon’s adult soccer clubs didn’t have their own websites from where I could obtain their contact/club information but only provided the league official contacts. I repeated my action of communicating with them inquiring about the teams in the league. In the meanwhile, I listed all the teams in a separate spreadsheet and continued to extract whatever I could from other related sources of the teams.
